| Cool cocktails taste better in the shade
Summer’s just around the corner and the weather’s getting hot … try these two fresh cocktails from warmer climes if you want to beat the heat.
It gets super hot in Brazil, so why not do as the Brazilians do …
Caipirihna*
Half lime (cut in 4)
2 teaspoon organic sugar
60ml brazilian Cachaca
Muddle lime and sugar in bottom of boston glass. Add ice until glass is full.
Add Cachaca. Cover with shaker tin and shake hard for sixty seconds.
Pour contents back into boston glass and top with ice, garnish with lime wedge and serve with a straw.
*can be made with vodka of your choice, but should be called Caipiroska
Mexico also knows a thing or two about the heat. Tequila has a restorative effect when you are in the sun and honey is a natural antibiotic. This is one cocktail that might actually be good for you!
Aguamiel
2 large pieces orange peel (as little pith as possible)
50ml Don Julio reposado tequila (or other quality reposado)
15ml honey water*
5 drops Fee Brothers orange bitters
In a large tumbler, press orange peels with muddler or spoon to release citrus oils. Add remaining ingredients, top with ice and stir with bar spoon for sixty seconds.
Wipe the rim with fresh piece of orange peel and serve.
* honey water is equal parts honey dissolved in hot water then cooled (will keep indefinitely in the fridge)
Keep shaking things up! Until next month ...
Cheers!
